Terrestrial LiDAR / 3D Laser Scanning

Laser scanners take 360 degree measurements around a fixed position. Depending on the scanner, speeds up to 1,000,000 points per second are possible with ranges of 300m. They often also capture 360 degree photography in colour or greyscale which can be used to give a colour value to each measured point.

The ouput from this process is a point cloud and when several point clouds are combined together they form a geometrically acurate representation of a building or structure.
